I can't take as beautiful of photos as
pilgrimgirl, but I did want to post these.
We figured out that we have a persimmon tree in our backyard. Who knew? If I am really ambitious, I will attempt persimmon pudding when fruit is finally ripe. I've been told it is ripe when the fruit falls from the tree.
I remember eating persimmons when I was in Russia - they tasted odd and different. I consider them a "forgotten fruit" of sorts.

I am so jealous! I love persimmons. I bought a big bag of them at the Farmer's MArket last week and have been rationing myself one a day. :)
Luc-keeey! In Japan they are often eaten when super ripe--an Albertson's cashier once asked my mom (who is native Japanese) if she wanted to exchange her soft, squishy and presumably rotten persimmons for some firm ones. I like mine firm and super-sweet, or dried and chewy.
