I was walking out of the grocery store with my groceries - when I overheard a conversation. A woman in a car was asking a man about how to get to the airport. Another woman came up to both of them also offering assistance and directions. ("Do you drive on the highway west? or east? What about that exit?", etc.)
I'm sure there are other places in the States that are just as friendly. But, people seem to go out of their way here - will smile at you on the street for no reason. Sometimes people from other cultures find that strange, but it's what I'm used to.

It is the same down here in Texas, but I've lived lots of places where that is strange. :)
