b.k. before kids

My father in law told me this parable before I had kids.

He said when you have kids, it's like planning to play golf on Saturday with friends you haven't seen in a long time. All week you shine your clubs. You visit the driving range to brush up on your swing. You check to make sure your golf shoes have spikes. Then Saturday morning, your child throws up all over everything. So you don't go.

Because I like to find the flip side of everything, I'm sure I thought - well, that can't be true. You could find a babysitter. Your spouse could take care of the child.

Now, being a mom myself, I know that's not the case.

I'm not trying to sound doom and gloom here, I often get to do the things that I plan. I would say it averages out to 9 out of 10 times. But there are some days, like today actually, where it doesn't work out.

In the end, for me, it's not that big of a price to pay. The uncertainity that comes with planning when one is the mother of twin two year olds. But I have found that every planning, every activity seems to come with the caveat - only if everyone stays healthy.

So true!

b.k. - that is funny. My husband & I always say "that was b.s." (both of us have names that start with s).
