Job Search

Things are getting a little hectic in my life currently so I may be posting less.

For various reasons, I'm starting a job search. I've been at my current position for almost 5 years now. Part of the reason I've been at my current job is that I really hate searching for jobs. Revising my resume, sending out cover letters and thank yous (does anyone really send thank yous anymore)?? Some of my disappointments in my current job would happen with any corporate job.

But sometimes there is something that is the straw that breaks the camel's back.

I should post about the crazy guy I worked for who threw candy at me. I was his receptionist. I should have walked out the door when he started throwing candy. He was definitely nuts. He used to swindle people by screaming at them. It was actually quite shocking just how many things he got by screaming at people and then asking to speak to their managers. I found out after I quit and the business disappeared that he was a con artist - not surprisingly.

I have a habit of staying in bad jobs.

Luckily, this current job did not involve anyone throwing candy at me. Or shouting at one another.

That was a deal-breaker for another job I was at. Two team members had a red faced shouting match in a team meeting for 20 minutes. Over numbering systems/ naming conventions. I am not joking. Needless to say, I think I was the only person who found the whole discussion odd. I say - anyone who takes their work that seriously to yell at another person for 20 minutes (especially over numbering systems) is taking their job way too seriously.

Part of the reason I'm starting the job search is I've been asked to work overtime. Unfortunately, this is not the twiddle your thumbs overtime. In other words, overtime for the sake of overtime which I have been asked to work before and I can safely say is pointless. But it does make my management look great. But I digress.

I will probably have actual work to do for the next four weeks or so.

I just know I can do better. I know that I can find something where I'm valued and challenged. And - working overtime will not be the norm. It's something only asked when absolutely needed. Because everyone needs a life.

Luckily, I'm healthy, my husband and kids are healthy - this blog and my free time will be (hopefully) be the only things that suffer. So I will post and respond - just not as much as I have been.

I'm with you - job searching is rough. If you need anything, an objective eye on a cover letter or resume, a reference, etc., I'm always happy to help.

On job searching, I am completely opposite of you. I love it. In fact, it could be considered a bit of a hobby, much like blogging. Yes, I realize I'm crazy. Good luck & let me know if you need any help! :)
